ING transfer limit 2026: Complete guide

ING is a popular provider for low cost everyday accounts, cards and services. ING has limits on the transfer services they provide, which it’s important to understand before you transact. Crucially, ING does not allow you to send money directly to a bank overseas. Instead, to move money from your ING account internationally you’ll need to use a third party provider like Wise or OFX.

This guide covers the key ING transfer limits you should understand, and also touches on services like Wise, Revolut and OFX, as great alternatives for high value transfers overseas.

ING does offer handy and simple to use account and card services – but they don’t let you send money from ING to banks based overseas. This can be frustrating if you want to pay an international bill or send money to a friend. As an alternative, you can use a service like Wise and pay from your ING account using a local transfer – more on that later.

Can you send high value international transfers with ING?

No. You can not send international transfers with ING Australia.

ING supports various local payment methods including Pay Anyone and Osko, but these transfers are usually capped at 5,000 AUD per account, per day, as a default.

You can receive international payments to your ING account if you have one of the following account types:

  • Orange Everyday account
  • Savings Maximiser account
  • Home Loan account

ING high amount transfer fees

ING has no fee for local payment services such as Pay Anyone and BPAY. Bear in mind that if you’re paying a bill using a credit card, you may incur penalties or interest costs if you don’t settle your credit card debts in full and on time each month.

ING exchange rate for international transfers

ING does not support outbound international transfers from its accounts.

If you’re sending a payment overseas, you’ll need to use a third party provider like Wise or OFX. To help you decide which to use, look carefully at the full costs involved with sending your payment, including any fees added to the exchange rate used.

It’s pretty common for transfer services to add a fee to the exchange rate used to convert your AUD to the currency needed for deposit. However, this can make it harder to calculate the amount you’re really paying – and when you’re sending a high value transfer, the costs can really rack up.

Consider a provider like Wise which doesn’t add fees to the exchange rate used, and instead splits out all the costs of your transfer so you can see them easily. We’ll look at some great alternative providers to send your ING international transfer with a little later.

Is ING safe for large amount transfers?

ING is safe to use for the services it provides. There are fairly low payment limits on Australian transfers, and you can also change your limit to add a lower daily limit, or a temporary limit if you choose to.

ING transfer limits

ING does not support payments being sent overseas. For domestic transfers, the default limit is 5,000 AUD per account, per day, for most payments. You can choose to increase this up to 20,000 AUD maximum per day for Pay Anyone transactions.

This is a cumulative limit which applies across Pay Anyone transactions and also real time payment methods like Osko, and transfers made with the New Payments Platform. However, the value of real time payments (Osko payments for example) is capped at 5,000 AUD daily.

Alternatives to ING with higher transfer limits

ING doesn’t support international transfers – instead, to send money overseas you’ll need to pick a third party provider like Wise, Revolut or OFX. You’ll be able to pay with a local transfer from your ING account, and the provider can help to initiate your payment overseas according to their transfer process.

Here’s an overview of some excellent alternatives to ING with higher transfer limits, which support international payments:

The easiest ways to send a payment with ING are to use PayID, or to pay using a mobile number. This means you don’t need to ask the recipient for their full banking information to send them money in AUD.

Is it possible to increase ING transfer limits?

You can increase the default daily Pay Anyone transfer limit from 5,000 AUD to an amount as high as 20,000 AUD if you want, as long as you hold an Orange Everyday account. This limit does not apply on real time payments, which are capped at 5,000 AUD per day.

How to increase ING transfer limits

To increase your limit on an Orange Everyday account you can take the following steps:

  1. Log into the ING app
  2. Select the account you wish to change the limit on

How to receive large transfers with ING

You can receive international transfers with Orange Everyday, Savings Maximiser and Home Loan accounts only. To receive money from abroad you need to give the sender the following information:

  • ING SWIFT Code: INGBAU2S
  • ING BSB: 923100
  • Your full name as shown on your account
  • Your ING account number

You’ll need to have the sender instruct their bank to send the money in AUD, or the transfer will be rejected.

Alternatives to ING for receiving large payments

You can’t receive an international payment to all ING account types – and you can’t receive money in any currency other than AUD. This may not be convenient, and may mean you end up paying for currency conversion you didn’t really need.

If you’d prefer to receive an international payment in a foreign currency without conversion you may prefer to use an alternative provider like Wise or Revolut.

  • Wise Account review: Receive payments with account details in 20+ currencies, often with no limit on the incoming transfer amount.
  • Revolut Account review: Receive payments in AUD and EUR with local account information, and SWIFT transfers in around 25 other supported currencies.

ING business payments limits

While ING does offer products for business customers, they’re not really intended for making business payments. You can only transfer from your ING business account to another linked account in your own name, which must be in Australia.

If you’re interested in learning more about ING business services, you can contact the customer support team to discuss your needs.

ING customer support for high amount transfers

You can talk to ING customer support in the following ways:

  • Message in the ING app using the iNG secure messaging service
  • Call 133 464 or +61 2 9028 4077 for overseas customers

Conclusion: Does ING have transfer limits?

ING has limits on the types and value of payments you can send. You can not send international payments with any ING account, although some ING accounts can receive money from abroad. There are also domestic payment limits which are generally about 5,000 AUD per account per day.

If you want to send a transfer to someone who’s overseas, you’ll need an alternative provider like Wise or OFX. Both allow you to pay for your transfer with AUD, and can help convert your money with a good exchange rate, and send it to the recipient’s bank for deposit.
